Study the Roulette Bets and then Play

The roulette table layout has numbered spaces that correspond to the numbered pockets on the roulette wheel plus other spaces to be used for outside roulette bets. The inside of the table consists of 12 rows of three numbers each, forming vertical columns with the 0 and 00 at the top of the columns (in European roulette there is only one 0 pocket). The outside of the table has boxes for betting columns, red/black, odd/even and different groups of numbers.

The roulette bets can be a bit confusing at first, but with some careful study you can learn what they mean. You might even be able to work out a strategy of roulette bets to win. But just remember that casino roulette is a game of chance, and it’s not easy to beat the house.

About Roulette Bets

There are two main types of roulette bets: Inside and Outside Bets.

Inside Bets: There are five different Inside Roulette Bets:
  • -Straight Bet – you bet on a single number (this has the highest payout if you win)
  • -Split Bet – a bet on two neighboring numbers
  • -Street Bet – a bet on any 3 numbers in a row
  • -Square Bet – you bet on a block of 4 numbers
  • -Line Bet – a bet on 6 numbers making up two adjacent rows

  • Outside Bets: There are only three kinds of Outside Roulette Bets:
  • -Column Bet – you bet on one of the three vertical columns
  • -Dozen Bet – a bet on 12 numbers – high, middle, or low – designated as First 12, Second 12 or Third 12
  • -Even Money Bet – this is a bet on eighteen numbers: Even, Odd, Red, Black 1-18 or 19-36

  • Suggestions for Winning with Roulette Bets

Here are some “strategy” suggestions, once you have learned your roulette bets, given by old hands or pros at the game of casino roulette:

Bet only on red (or black) – you can bet on the ball landing in a red (or black) space for a certain number of spins. If you have the patience and the money to play for about 38 spins, there are chances that the ball will land on the red (or the black) about ten times.

Martingale Strategy – this strategy claims that if you double your roulette bets after every loss, your first win will recover all previous losses plus win you a profit equal to your original roulette bets. However, you may end up losing quite a lot before winning anything.

Dopey Experiment – bet on a particular number for 35 consecutive spins. If the number hits during that time, you win back your original roulette bets and can play more spins with house money.

Combination Tactic – bet on red and odd (or black and even). Treat each bet separately. When one bet loses, double it. When one bet wins, set it back to 1. Pros say there is a 25% chance of your winning both the red and the odd (or the black and the even) and a 50% chance you will break even.

Your roulette bets should be made for the purpose of enjoying the roulette game. If you don’t bet beyond your means, you may come out a winner.
