Roulette in Classic Movies
There are several classic films which have roulette as a prominent motif. Roulette is perfect for the gambling scene as it combines well balanced, even money wagers with as high risk, big winning, single number wagers. There are several good examples of roulette scenes in classic movies. For example, in the 1942 film of Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart (as Rick) helps out a Bulgarian refugee by letting him win on a rigged wheel. Another such example is the famous1973 movie; The Sting. There, Robert Redford losses most of his share of a con job at a rigged wheel, right at the beginning of the film.
Other Great Roulette Movies
Aside from the aforementioned great classics, there are other great roulette movies worth mentioning. For example, in the movie 'Run, Lola, Run!' the dramatic climax of the third part of this 1998 film is when Lola expends her remaining cash in order to buy a 100 mark chip. She bets on 20 and wins. She then lets her bet ride on 20 and wins again. Thus she ends up winning enough so that her boyfriend can payoff his boss (in fact, she ends up with some 30k marks spare!). Although not really a movie, the music video called "Palace & Main" features a prominent roulette motif. In this video, the guitarist takes an entire film budget (of some 40 thousand dollars) and gambles the entire sum on Black. He wins (of course) and donates the winnings to a charity fund for children with cancer.
Roulette Glamour
The glamour of roulette obviously caused the filmmakers to choose roulette as the backdrop for their film. This choice, much as the roulette wheel itself is a wheel which spins itself. The filmmakers' choices have brought about a further increase in the glamour of roulette and have added even more to the attractiveness of this legendary game. Armed with the glamour of such movies it is even more fun to place chips in this great game!
